Current Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul, owned this condo until 2001, the year she was named the House Minority Whip and made second-in-command to Minority Leader Dick Gephardt of Missouri. Pelosi, a Democrat from San Francisco, first assumed office in the House in 1987 and has been re-elected 11 times. Pelosi is the first woman, the first Californian and the first Italian-American to be named Speaker of the House.
