John Michael Fahey, Jr., and his wife, Heidi, sold a five-bedroom, 5.5-bath home at 1513 30th St. N.W. in Georgetown to Abraham and Yudith Peled for $4.85 million on Feb. 17.

The Faheys bought the property for $3.95 million in Aug. 2005. The 3,852-square-foot house was built in 1900.

Mr. Fahey has been the president and chief executive officer of the National Geographic Society since 1998. He joined the organization in 1996 as president of the National Geographic Ventures, which includes the company's television programming and Web site.

He previously was chairman, president and CEO of Time Line, Inc., a Time Warner subsidiary. He was named as one of the Top 100 Marketers by the Advertising Age and one of the 100 Top Irish Americans by American magazine.

He received his engineering degree from Manhattan College and his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1975.

There were 90 home sales in Georgetown in 2008, with median sales price of $1.2 million.
